Thanks for this article, Scott, and the others. I am learning a lot! My p&s does default to 2.8 1/60th in auto or when i do a forced flash in UW mode, but if i go to External Flash Manual Mode (even though i don’t have an ext. strobe), i can up the f-stop to 5.3. Not quite f8 to block the ambient light, but 5.3 is better than 2.8. What time and ISO would you recommend for a 5.3 f-stop for best results?
Thanks,
Ryan

Good article, I have 2 Inon z240’s and am debating whether I need a focus light as well. The Inons have an in-built continuous mode but it is a bit awkward to switch on and off when the strobes are extended on arms. Anyway thanks for the article. Matt Considine

– thanks Matt. I think a focus light is always a good idea, since often the strobes will not be pointed at the subject

Great article–I especially liked the advice about how a strobe may not necessarily be the answer, if one does not have the ability to set aperture or manual exposure. I wish I had known this one my first trip to Cozumel–I got a lot of washed out exposures because my camera was defaulting to a wide-open aperture.
